2011 European Health and Safety Week

European Health and Safety Week aims to raise awareness and promote activities to make work safer and healthier, forming part of a larger ongoing campaign.

This year’s European Health & Safety Week continues the 2010 "Campaign on Safe Maintenance". It begins on Monday 24 October, with the National Inspection Day on Wednesday 26 October where Safety Reps are encouraged to use this day to carry out their legal right to inspect their workplace for health, safety, and welfare.

The theme "Campaign on Safe Maintenance" concerns all workers; those with jobs in repair and maintenance, those who enforce health and safety, and those who work in poorly maintained buildings or workshops.

The Trade Union Safety Team supports the annual European Health and Safety Week and encourages all workers to join a trade union. Research continues to show that workplaces with trade union safety reps are twice as safe as those without and in the current climate of cuts, trade unions become more important.

As well as offering free-confidential advice and information following an accident at work, TRUST provides advice on civil compensation and industrial injuries disablement benefit.

TRUST is organised by the Chesterfield & District Trades Union Council and supported by
